Gaane cmte endorses adoption of HPFS 2030 in city’s health system
THE adoption of the proposed Health Promotion Framework Strategy (HPFS) 2030 in the city-wide health system in Cagayan de Oro was favorably endorsed by the City Council committee on health and health insurance chaired by Councilor Maria Lourdes S. Gaane.
This is in line with Section 30 of the Universal Health Care Act which directs Local Government Units (LGUs) to issue and implement effective health promotion policies, programs, and activities that promote health literacy and healthy lifestyle among their constituents, prioritizing interventions that address key risk factors to prevent and control disease, as well as to advance population and individual health and well-being.
In realizing the provisions set by the UHC Act, the Department of Health (DOH) formulated HPFS 2030 to serve as the overall national health promotion roadmap and basis for all health promotion policies, programs, and activities at the national, regional, and local levels.
The Gavel learned that this framework strategy aims to provide guidance and direction for city-wide health systems to operationalize health promotion as envisioned in the UHC law.
HPFS 2030 shall focus on the risk factors such as diet and physical activity; environmental health; immunization; substance use of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs; mental health; sexual and reproductive health; and violence and injury prevention.
The committee referred this to the committee on laws and rules chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya for appropriate action.
