Gaane cites City Nutrition Cmte for bagging 2024 National Health Award
“THIS award is not just for Cagayan de Oro; it belongs to every Filipino who believes in the transformative power of good nutrition. We welcome it with humility and share it with pride, knowing that together we can build a brighter and healthier future for all.”
Thus, stressed Councilor Maria Lourdes S. Gaane, chair of the City Council Committee on Health, Nutrition and Health Insurance, in her special report during regular session on Monday as she commended the City Nutrition Committee for earning the coveted National Health Award (NHA).
Councilor Gaane represented Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy in receiving the award from the National Nutrition Award Committee last February 24, 2024, at the Manila Hotel.
She welcomed the award with humility and expressed pride, emphasizing the collective ability to forge a brighter and healthier future. She also acknowledged the City Nutrition Council's unwavering commitment and diligent efforts in nutrition program management.
Apart from the ₱1 million cash reward accompanying the National Health Award, Gaane highlighted the individual achievements of Cheryl Faith Espanola as the 2022 National Outstanding City Nutrition Program Coordinator, and Loida Liza Viscayno, Barangay Nutrition Scholar of Barangay Balulang, as the 2022 Region 10 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar and finalist for the National Outstanding BNS.
The Councilor attributed the success of the endeavor to the exemplary leadership of Mayor Uy, who chairs the City Nutrition Council (CNC), adding that his administration has consistently prioritized bringing essential government services closer to the people, particularly in the field of healthcare.
"This recognition is not merely a trophy on a shelf; it is a testament to the unwavering commitment, collaborative spirit, and tireless efforts of countless individuals who have made Cagayan de Oro a paragon of nutritional well-being," emphasized Councilor Gaane.
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by various stakeholders, Gaane also expressed gratitude to the dedicated City Nutrition Committee, passionate health workers, community leaders, and the relentless barangay nutrition scholars.
Moving forward, the councilor said that the CNC commits to strengthening efforts in fostering good nutrition for every Kagay-anon child and family and reaching out to the most vulnerable and marginalized communities, emphasizing collaboration, more than competition. The city will also remain open to new ideas and evidence-based approaches, constantly seeking ways to improve programs and interventions.
