Emano asks DPWH, City Engineer’s Office to submit comprehensive drainage master plan
IN an effort to address the ongoing challenges of urban flooding, Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano, on Monday, requested both the District Engineering Offices of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), as well as the City Engineer’s Office, to submit to the City Council the current comprehensive drainage system of Cagayan de Oro to create a drainage master plan for the eastern and western parts of the city.
The lady councilor aired her proposal during the regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, in support to the Operation Likay Baha: Kanal Limpyohan, Baha Malikayan program of the city, recently launched by the City Council Committee on Public Works, under the leadership of Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas.
While Councilor Emano lauded the initiatives of the city government in coordination with the barangay councils and national government agencies for the massive clean-up of drainage, the efforts were met with challenges to access areas and structures that hamper the desilting operation.
Emano pointed out that urban flooding is getting more serious.
“Dili pwede nga mag-anad ta nga kung mag-ulan ug magbaha mo-ingon lang ta nga sige lang mo-naog ra man ang tubig,” she opined.
“Our people trust us and maybe this is one initiative or one way for us to show nga we actually care, we actually want this huge problem fixed,” Emano stressed.
Councilor Emano hopes that, through her proposal, the city government can determine possible solutions.
“Dili ni siya dali nga program or project but, in order to achieve a long-term goal, we need to start somewhere; and I hope this resolution will be the beginning of that,” Emano concluded.
With this, the legislative body passed a resolution supporting the proposal of Councilor Emano.
