Deed of usufruct with CHED-X gets council nod
THE 20th City Council, during its regular session on Monday, presided over by Presiding Officer Pro Tempore Councilor Romeo V. Calizo enacted an ordinance authorizing City Mayor Rolando A. Uy to enter and sign a deed of usufruct with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) which covers the use of a 1,341-square-meter city-owned property as the site for CHED’s office expansion and parking spaces adjacent to its current office at Hayes St., Barangay No. 40.
In his letter to the City Council, Mayor Uy emphasized that the agreement aims to provide logistical support to CHED RO-X and its clientele, particularly tertiary education students and higher education institutions, by granting the use of the city-owned lot for necessary office expansion and parking spaces.
The usufruct is set for fifteen (15) years, renewable upon mutual agreement. CHED will have the right and privilege to use the property exclusively for office expansion.
For its part, CHED is responsible for maintaining peaceful possession and preventing illegal or informal settlers from occupying the vicinity throughout the agreement.
This initiative strengthens the implementation of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017 and aligns with the Safety, Security, and Human Development component of the city's RISE agenda, with a particular emphasis on education.
The legislation was certified urgent by Mayor Uy and approved by the members of the City Council.
