DADS OKAY 20% DISCOUNT ON ADVANCED PAYMENT OF RPTS

THE 20th City Council on its regular session Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez enacted an ordinance granting twenty percent (20%) discount for advanced prompt payment of real property taxes and additional tax accruing to the Special Education Fund (SEF) due for Calendar Year 2023 only.

This is pursuant to Section 251 of RA 7160 which authorizes LGUs through the Sanggunian to grant tax discount not excedding 20% of the tax due for the advanced propmt payment of realty tax and to encourage real property owners in the city to make advanced prompt payments of their real property taxes.

Furthermore, this shall also enable the city government to achieve, if not surpass, its annual tax collection targets and also to induce tax payers to make advanced prompt payments of their real property taxes and in order to recognize the conscientious discharge of their responsibilities as taxpayers and as members of society.

Under the ordinance, advanced prompt payment means the payment in full of the RPT before January 1, 2023.

Finally, as provided in the ordinance, the above-mentioned discount shall only be granted to properties without any delinquency.

Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, chairman of the committee on laws and rules, said that this is another innovation of the new administration.

In contrast to the previous years where the discount percentage ranges from 7% to 20%, this ordinance grants a flat rate of 20% for all realty taxes regardless of the classification, he added.

The legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the committees on finance, budget and appropriations and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Yan Lam S. Lim and Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, respectively. (JAOclarit/SP)
