Councilor Balaba bats for pottery village preservation in Bulua
“I envision Bulua to be an area where they (the potters) can also showcase the workmanship of pottery while displaying their products.”
This was how Councilor Girlie Joyleen Mercedes L. Balaba described the future of pottery industry in Barangay Bulua once a dedicated pottery village to showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of local potters has been established.
In a recent meeting of the City Council Committee on Tourism, Balaba emphasized the initiative's educational and tourism potential.
"Tourists and students alike would enjoy learning and creating clay pottery themselves," she said.
The councilor also suggested exploring vacant lots in Barangay Bulua, such as the area near the Korean Surplus shop, to serve as the location for the envisioned pottery village.
As the proponent of the ordinance to preserve pottery-making in Barangay Bulua, Balaba reiterated her commitment to providing resources and support for local potters.
She pointed out that the ordinance includes provisions for budget allocation to support the industry's growth and sustainability.
"This initiative aims to not only preserve our cultural heritage but also provide local potters with a space to thrive and inspire creativity among the community," Balaba concluded.
The Committee on Tourism, chaired by Councilor Jay Roa Pascual, alongside Barangay Bulua officials and stakeholders, is now set to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed project, which could bolster tourism and economic activity in the area while safeguarding a cherished tradition.
