Coast Guard proposes activation of substation in coastal brgys

On Monday’s regular session, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station of Cagayan de Oro submitted its proposal for the activation of coast guard substations in Barangays Bulua, Carmen, Macasandig, Lapasan, Tablon and Puerto.

Speaking in behalf of the Commander of Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao, Commodore Geronimo B. Tuvilla, Commander Patrick John Cabasag said the intention of the proposal is to enhance and strengthen the PCG’s presence in coastal barangays specifically to deliver immediate response and other maritime services.

For this undertaking, Cabasag also said initial coordination with barangay officials have already been done with positive response particularly in Macasandig. He said the barangay has adopted a resolution for the provision of a lot where the substation will be constructed.

The official made a visual presentation to the City Council about PCG History, the IRR of RA 9993, core functions of the PCG, renaming of coast guard stations and areas of responsibility, among others, as an offshoot of the special report of Councilor Romeo V. Calizo during the 27th regular session on February 13, 2023.

As presented by Cabasag, the PCG Station of Cagayan de Oro is under Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao commanded by Commodore Tuvilla. It has only one station in Macabalan catering all ports in the city and its areas of responsibility also include the whole region of Bukidnon.
