City to hold interment for Sendong victims on 13th anniversary

IN its regular session on Monday, presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, Councilor Joyleen Mercedes L. Balaba announced that a formal interment ceremony for the unidentified Typhoon Sendong victims will be held on December 16, 2024, at 9:30 AM at the Bolonsori Park.

The occasion coincides with the 13th anniversary of the devastating typhoon, which caused extensive damages to infrastructure and agriculture and claimed thousands of lives in December 2011.

“Madayon na gayud ang paghinumdom sa atong mga unidentified Sendong victims. Everyone is invited, especially the families of the victims,” Councilor Balaba said. 

Balaba, who is chair of the City Council committee on social services, further stated that the family members approved of the ceremonial burial during its recent meeting.

It may be recalled that Councilor James K. Judith made a special report requesting the city government to attend to the nearly 300 victims who were laid to rest in concrete vaults at the City Memorial Park.
