City, MRXUH-Pediatrics to provide health services to Brgy Nazareth

THE city government of Cagayan de Oro and the Maria Reyna-Xavier University Hospital (MRXUH) - Department of Pediatrics will provide health services to constituents of Barangay Nazareth through the Nazareth Local Health Center (NLHC).

Through an ordinance, the 19th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy during its regular session, Tuesday, authorized City Mayor Oscar Moreno to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the MRXUH for the purpose.

In his letter to the committee on health, Atty. Jose Sabanal said this linkage further enhances the basic services of the local government unit to the community which addresses their health needs. Through this, residents of Nazareth will be able to consult a resident pediatrician aside from services provided by the City Health Office, he said.

Under the MOA, the MRXUH shall provide daily services of at least two hours of a pediatric resident in the NLHC, but teleconsultation services may be given in lieu of an actual attendance during the coronavirus pandemic.

The said hospital shall also facilitate referrals of patients to a higher government health facility if needed upon evaluation at NLHC; accept referrals from the said community; provide regular feedback to CHO regarding health services rendered and other health concerns.

For its part, the city shall allow the resident physicians of MRXUH to use the city-owned health facility at Nazareth to provide free medical and other health services to the constituents in the area; provide technical, logistical support and supervision thru the CHO in the said facility; and conduct regular evaluation of the status of health care in the area concerned.

The legislation was sponsored by the committees on health and health insurance and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Maria Lourdes S. Gaane and Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, respectively.
