City Council to deliberate on HUCAFC resolution for CDO Trading Post

THE City Council trade and commerce committee, chaired by Councilor George S. Goking, is set to review the proposal to establish a trading post or consolidation center in Cagayan de Oro City.

Endorsed by the Highly Urbanized City Agricultural and Fishery Council (HUCAFC) on February 20, 2025, the trading post aims to reduce post-harvest losses, stabilize prices, and boost income opportunities for local producers through a centralized market hub where farmers and fisherfolk can directly sell their produce.

It is expected to strengthen the agricultural value chain, attract agribusiness investments, and establish market links with institutional buyers, retailers, and consumers.

It will also feature storage, processing, and logistics support services to ensure efficient distribution, minimize food wastage, and uphold food safety standards.

HUCAFC proposes implementing the trading post through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), cooperative engagement, or direct government funding to ensure sustainability, affordability, and operational efficiency. (JAOclarit/SP)
