City Council okays SK Brgy. 2 budget
IN its 98th regular session, presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, the 20th City Council approved the resolution covering the 2024 annual budget of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay 2, amounting to ₱315,185.00.
The approved budget is sourced from the barangay’s 10% development fund in accordance with Republic Act 10742, or the SK Reform Act.
A portion of the budget has been allocated for the honorarium of SK members, as well as for maintenance and other operating expenses, which include membership dues to the SK Federation, travel expenses, and fidelity bond premiums.
Additionally, the SK has appropriated funds for youth development and empowerment programs that focus on six key areas of youth participation. These programs include health, with the "Plates of Potential" feeding initiative; environment, through youth clean-up drive, "Root for the Future: Grow Trees, Grow Communities" activity, and the disaster preparedness campaign; and governance, with leadership training under the "Futuristic Leaders" program and the KK Assembly.
In the area of education, the SK launched "Edukasyon nga Abot-Kamot: Mga Suplay Alang sa Tanan" to provide school supplies to youth. For active citizenship, programs like "#MagGalaw, MagApil: Kabataan Pangunasa Barangay Dos" and the celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan were also rolled out. Lastly, in agriculture, the SK introduced the "#PlantingHope: DIY Urban Farming Program," supplying plants to each youth household to promote sustainability within the community.
The said legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the Committees on Sports and Youth Development, chaired by Councilor Kenneth John D. Sacala, and on Laws and Rules, chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas.
