City Council congratulates Kagay-anon chef hailed as best new chef in USA
The 20th City Council of Cagayan de Oro, in its regular session on Monday, presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, adopted a resolution congratulating Ms. Nicole Cabrera Mills, a Kagay-anon chef based in the United States, as one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs of 2024.

This recognition highlights her remarkable talent in the culinary world, particularly in New Orleans, where she serves as Chef de Cuisine at Pêche Seafood Grill.
Chef Nicole Mills, born and raised in Cagayan de Oro, began her culinary journey with early exposure to her family's bakery in Bukidnon and her mother’s dim sum business. After studying at Corpus Christi School and Ateneo de Manila University, she moved to New York to attend the French Culinary Institute, building a diverse career with renowned chefs in New York and Los Angeles.
She returned to Cagayan de Oro to open Bourbon Street, a Creole-inspired bistro, before relocating to New Orleans, where she became Chef de Cuisine at Pêche Seafood Grill in 2019.
Mills has gained recognition for her innovative blend of Filipino and Creole flavors, with features in publications like Garden & Gun and The New York Times. She continues to shine in the culinary world, hosting a station at The James Beard Foundation’s Taste America event while representing her roots with pride.
