City Council approves MOA with DA for PRDP Scale-Up

The 20th City Council, during its regular session on Monday, enacted an ordinance authorizing City Mayor Rolando A. Uy to enter and sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Agriculture which covers the partnership of the parties in the implementation of the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Scale Up.

The DA has been implementing the program since 2014 up to the present and is currently initiating innovative approaches and processes in engaging rural communities, LGUs, and national government agencies in planning, designing, and implementing rural development projects.

PRDP is jointly funded by the national government, local government units, farmers, fisherfolk beneficiaries, and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). It has triggered improvements in household income and food security levels through better-targeted and sustainable agriculture and fisheries-related rural development and marine biodiversity conservation projects and enhanced LGU institutional, technical, management, and financial capabilities, and systems.

Given the prevailing need of the agriculture sector to address the gaps in the value chain and improve and modernize the agri-fishery industry, and following the Philippine Development Plan, National Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization and Industrialization Plan (NAFMIP) 2021-2030, the DA has expanded the PRDP with the institution of the new PRDP Scale-up.

The legislation was certified urgent by Mayor Uy and approved by the members of the City Council.
