Calizo points out sanitary landfill mismanagement

“If the(re) are lapses in the management (of the sanitary landfill) …, who will penalize them?”

This was the query of Councilor Romeo V. Calizo in reaction to the special report of Councilor Roger G. Abaday during the last regular session regarding the improper handling and disposal of hazardous wastes or toxic substances coming mostly from hospitals, medical and dental clinics.

The councilor made these remarks after personally seeing the area. Calizo said that even if there is already a clear mismanagement in the City’s Sanitary Landfill in Barangay Pagalungan especially in the disposal of toxic waste, no mitigating measures were implemented up to this time.

“Obviously if you go there, you can see that there are hazardous wastes but there appears to be a semblance of just unsa man kung naa na diha?... nobody cares. If CLENRO is the one committing the lapses, kinsay mobuyag nila didto?” the councilor further lamented.
