Calizo cites need to implement forced evacuation in flood-prone areas
TO DO away with doing rescue operations during calamities as our main problem, forced evacuation is a very important action that should be done by our disaster management team.
This was recommended by Councilor Romeo V. Calizo during the regular session Monday in reaction to the special report of Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas regarding the preparation of the city for Typhoon Odette predicted to hit the city within the week.
Calizo recalled that the city was able to incur a zero casualty in 2017 during the onslaught of Typhoon Vinta because of forced evacuation that was undertaken by the government thru the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD).
“We should accept that the capability of our flood-control system does not guarantee that there will be no effect of the floods. Forced evacuation is very important in this aspect,” the councilor pointed out.
He urged all barangay local government units in the city through the Liga ng mga Barangay headed by Councilor Yan Lam S. Lim to already prep up their respective evacuation centers.
