Cabanlas lead inspection of lot for proposed city’s demo farm

COUNCILOR Edgar S. Cabanlas, chair of the City Council committee on subdivision and landed estate, led the ocular inspection last Wednesday at portions of the lot located in Zone 4, Barangay Baikingon, owned by a private individual, for the proposed Integrated Demonstration Farm and Research Center of the City Agriculture Office for farmers and fisher folks.

The ocular inspection was joined by representatives of the City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD), the City Engineer’s Office, the City Agriculture Office–Agricultural Productivity Operations Office (APO), the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), and the lot owner.

During the inspection, it was found that the area is situated along the parallel highway between Iligan City and Bukidnon highway, and the ongoing construction of a road from Alae to Iligan City.

The Gavel learned that the city intends to purchase the lot with an area of 51,165 sq.m. for the purpose.

It may be recalled that the committee discussed the matter with the lot owner and concerned city offices following the request of City Agriculturist Paterno L. Gonzales, Jr. for the city to acquire the said lot and agreed to conduct an inspection to determine the actual situation of the area.

Gonzales said the supposed establishment of the said demo farm has been delayed due to the establishment of the Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Disease (CEREID) facility of the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) located in Barangay San Simon, which was donated by the city.

Councilor Cabanlas said the matter will be tackled again during its next meeting for proper disposition.
