Barangay Tanod Honorarium hike Okd
On its regular session yesterday presided over by Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez, the 20th City Council enacted an ordinance amending Section 6 of Ordinance No. 13273-2017, or the Barangay Tanod Development Committee Ordinance, so as to increase the financial assistance or honorarium to the members of the Ronda Tanod from P500 to P1000 each per month.
The ordinance provides that only 20 Tanods per barangay can avail of the said financial assistance. Authored by Councilor Yan Lam S. Lim, the amendatory ordinance was enacted in recognition not only of Tanod’s vital contributions and critical role in the maintenance of peace and order in the city but also due to inflationary factors.
Ordinance No. 13273-2017 was enacted on July 31, 2017 creating the Barangay Tanod Development Committee that will coordinate all efforts and initiatives for the equal protection and welfare of the Ronda Tanod.
Barangay Police/Tanods are considered as one of the major contributors and stakeholders in the implementation of the government’s peace and order programs by serving their respective barangays on a voluntary basis, risking their lives and limbs to preserve its peace and order for minimal or insignificant financial remuneration.
Furthermore, they are likewise regarded as the agents of persons in authority who act as frontliners in the preparation and response to any type of atrocities, public disorders, emergencies and even disasters or man-made calamities that threaten peace and order and public safety.
The legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the committees on finance, budget and appropriations and on laws and rules respectively chaired by Councilors Yan Lam S. Lim and Ian Mark Q. Nacaya.
