Balaba backs call for potable water

“ANY consumer, not just the Cagayanons, would be willing to pay for any amount or (rate) increase sa tubig for as long as quality ang atong tubig in terms of mainom siya diretso gikan sa gripo ug  kakusog pud sa agas sa gripo sa kada panimalay.”

Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Joyleen Mercedes L. Balaba

This was manifested by Councilor Joyleen Mercedes L. Balaba in reaction to the special report of Councilor James K. Judith II relative to his call for an investigation on the failure of Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water, Incorporated (COBI) to provide potable water to the city residents for several years.

To illustrate this, the lady councilor presented a video clip taken during her recent visit to Davao City, showing a glass filled with clear water straight from a faucet.

“Nganong kita diri sa Cagayan de Oro ulahi na kaayo sa atong water services?” Balaba questioned.

“Namroblema lang gihapon kita hangtud karon sa walay agas, kulang sa agas, ug mga internal strife sa COWD ug sa mga kontrata na iyang ginahimo with any private stakeholders. Ang Davao City tua na sila sa ilang treatment sa ilang tubig, gisiguro nila na ang ilang tubig mainom gyud gikan sa gripo and to think na kita diri naa tay daghan na water sources, napalibotan ta sa rivers,” she further pointed out.
