It’s now official. January 8 is the Araw ng Barangay of Barangay Indahag.

This, after 20th City Council, in its regular session on Monday, presided by Presiding Pro Tempore Councilor Romeo V. Calizo declared as operative Barangay Indahag Ordinance No. 001, Series of 2023, entitled: An Ordinance Perpetua declaring January 8, 2024 and every year thereafter as the Araw ng Barangay Celebration in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental and providing funds for this purpose

Authored by Indahag Kagawad Dolilidiano G. Dayon and co-sponsored by Kagawad Ramil T. Queroyla, the ordinance underscores the importance of barangay as the fundamental political unit of the country, playing a vital role in local governance and national development.

It aligns with Republic Act No. 2370, also known as the Barrio Charter Law, which grants autonomy to local communities in managing their affairs.

The ordinance covers 10 sitios, including Poblacion, Lomboy, Talisay, and Sto. Niño, among others, and several subdivisions and homeowners' associations.

It mandates the allocation of annual funds by the barangay to support activities during the celebration.

The annual event is expected to feature various community engagements, reinforce the ideals of participatory governance, and strengthen the bond between local leaders and their constituents.

The legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the committees on barangay affairs and on laws and rules, respectively chaired by Councilors Yan Lam S. Lim and Edgar S. Cabanlas. (JAOclarit/SP)
