Achas joins Nat’l Fisherfolks month celebration

As the new chair of the City Council committee on fisheries and aquatic resources, Councilor Ian Achas joins the nation in celebrating this year’s National Fisherfolks Month.

Centered on the theme, “Buwan ng Magsasaka at Mangingisda 2023: Masaganang Agrikultura, Maunlad na Ekonomiya”, the month-long celebration aims to recognize the modern-day heroes who tirelessly work on our lands and seas and highlight their roles as partners of the government and as the country’s backbone in poverty alleviation and food security program.

The culmination program was held at the City Tourism Hall which was attended by City Agriculturist Paterno Gonzales, Emmanuel Toledo of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-10), representatives of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-10), City Local Environment and Natural Resources (CLENRO), farmers, and different fisherfolk associations.

Councilor Achas expressed his gratitude to the fisherfolks and the farmers for their tireless efforts and hard work to provide fresh and sustainable seafood, supporting the local economy and ensuring that the constituents have access to nutritious food.

The councilor likewise expressed his full support for their plans and programs, saying he will work with them to ensure that their rights and interests are protected.

“Makalaom kamo nga ako magtabang kanunay sa pagpalabang sa mga ordinansa nga makatabang aron sa pagpalambo sa atung kadagatan ug labina sa atong mga magigiting na mananagat,” said Councilor Achas.
