Achas calls for transfer of Bukidnon quarantine facility

Councilor Christian Rustico M. Achas on Monday said the animal quarantine facility should be placed at the border points of Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental, not within the jurisdiction of Barangay Puerto, as the law provides. This was manifested by the councilor following his call to transfer the Bukidnon Provincial Office Livestock and Poultry Quarantine facility, which is currently located inside the territory of Barangay Puerto.

Councilor Achas maintained that the Bureau of Animal Industry is mandated to promulgate the National Veterinary Quarantine Service with functions to set up, maintain and operate animal quarantine checkpoints, border points/stations at airports and seaports, and other strategic places, holding corrals and other facilities infrastructures.

“This report is not to question the function of the facility and the validity of the establishment”, said Councilor Achas.

He emphasized the law provides that the animal quarantine checkpoints should be in the border points of strategic places.

“This aims to avoid misconception, create clear vision in the grey area on the border point of the Cagayan de Oro City and the Province of Bukidnon”, Achas concluded.
