Accreditation committee to review applications for CDC membership

The City Council committee on planning, research and innovation and people’s organization accreditation chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya is set to review the applications for membership in the City Development Council (CDC) Committee on People’s Organization of six civil society organizations (CSOs).

These include the Mother Ignacia National Social Apostolate Center Inc. (MINSAC), Aluba Homeowners Association, Inc., Philippine Island Kids International Foundation, Inc., Federation of Barangay Women Development Committee Cagayan de Oro, Inc., Safer River Life Saver Foundation, Inc. and Northern Mindanao Holistic Therapeutic Blind Masseur Service Coop.

The committee on people’s organization is a special committee in the CDC per City Ordinance No. 14334-2022, entitled “An Ordinance Strengthening Participatory Governance in the City of Cagayan de Oro Through Empowerment of Civil Society Organizations By Establishing a Committee on People’s Organization in the City Development Council (CDC), Prescribing its Powers and Functions and Providing for their Participation in the Local Special Bodies and various Boards, Councils, Task Forces and Similar Groups.”

The people’s organization refers to an association of residents in a barangay or barangays, or persons belonging to a particular group or sector, established to promote public interest and with an identifiable leadership structure and membership. It is often formed among the disadvantaged sectors of society such as the farmer-peasant, artisanal fisher folk, workers in the formal sector, and migrant workers, among others.
