Abaday joins Kagay-an Festival Marathon
COUNCILOR Roger Abaday dashed to the streets of Cagayan de Oro to participate in the 2024 Kagay-an Festival Marathon, a core event of the Higalaay Festival that he co-chairs.
The marathon, which officially gun started at 2:00am for the 42k run, began with a briefing by the race director and proceeded with a Zumba dance exercise as warm up activity.
The 42k full marathoners ran two loops from Centrio Ayala Mall to Agusan Overpass, while the 21k runners only did one loop heading to the same turning point and back. The 10k runners traversed the roads leading to Nature’s Spring in Cugman and to Tuna Republic in Gusa for the 5k runners.
Aid stations and medical teams were also put up along the route ready to assist the runners.
After the run, a program followed to award the top ten (10) finishers for each category.
On behalf of Mayor Klarex Uy, Councilor Abaday expressed gratitude to the lead organizer, Circle Productions Inc., as well as the sponsors for partnering with the local government in holding such event that is both recreational and healthful.
He also congratulated everyone who successfully completed the race.
“All of us are winners, because we (have) contributed to the success of the activity,” he said.
The marathon drew more than 3,000 runners from different parts of the Philippines.
