Abaday joins Extended Producer Responsibility forum

REAFFIRMING his commitment to sustainable waste management in the city, environment committee chair Councilor Roger G. Abaday took part in the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Forum held at the VIP Hotel, last January 31, 2025.

The event, sponsored by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), gave importance on integrating circularity into the informal waste sector and maximizing opportunities of the local waste diverters in the EPR Program.

The EPR Program requires big companies to recover a portion of their plastic packaging waste to eliminate unnecessary packaging and adopt more environmentally friendly designs. With its proper implementation, waste materials are designed to be reused so no plastics end up in nature.

Councilor Abaday, in his message, mentioned key initiatives of the city government, including waste reduction, infrastructure investments, and support for the informal waste sector.

On January 6, this year, LGU-Cagayan de Oro under the leadership of Mayor Rolando A. Uy launched programs in line with Proclamation No. 760, s. 2014, which declares January as Zero Waste Month. (FDCalotes/SP)
