Calizo body to look into proposal to institutionalize COCPO’s K9 platoon

CITY Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy referred to the committee on police, fire and public safety chaired by Councilor Romeo V. Calizo the proposal of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) regarding its plan to boost its K-9 Unit and institutionalize it to a more robust platoon.

In a letter addressed to the City Mayor, Police Senior Superintendent Nelson Aganon said the plan aims to augment the depleted number of K-9 handlers and K-9 dogs that will be deployed at border patrol bases and to secure public transport terminals, public markets, churches and other places of convergence in the city.

The plan, dubbed as “Institutionalization of COCPO K-9 Platoon,” was formulated based on the review and assessment of the recent bombing situation in the island of Mindanao and the vulnerability of the city to terroristic attacks. COCPO deemed it necessary to take a proactive step in the preservation of life and properties by conducting counter-measures to pre-empt possible nefarious incidents in the city, Aganon further stressed.

With the urgency of the project and for the interest of public service, COCPO is appealing to the members of the legislative body for prompt action on the request for the betterment of the overall peace and order in the city. (SP/JAO)
