Trade cmte to continue discussions on proposal to create anti-scam task force
THE City Council committee on trade and commerce chaired by Councilor George S. Goking will continue discussions on the proposal to create an Anti-Scam Task Force patterned after Davao City during its meeting today, October 22.
This, in the wake of complaints regarding online currency investment scams such as the Freedom Traders Club, that are spreading in the city.
It may be recalled that during discussions with Atty. Jose Edgardo Uy, chair of the Cagayan de Oro City Price Monitoring Council and representatives of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), CIDG-RFU-10, it was agreed that there is a need to create a Technical Working Group (TWG) for the proposed Anti-Scam Task Force.
The creation of the TWG was also endorsed to the office of the city mayor.
It may be recalled that the SEC issued advisories against investment schemes and other online scams operating in the region.
