Modernization program of PUVs ongoing
A REPRESENTATIVE of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) informed the City Council committee on public utilities chaired by Councilor Teodulfo Lao on Friday that phasing-out of old jeepneys is now being implemented.
He said pursuant to the rules and regulations of LTFRB, if a unit reaches its age limit the office will require the owner to drop and substitute the unit with a brand new, otherwise, they will not be allowed to operate.
“Itong ‘tanggal bulok, tanggal usok’ program para ito sa mga matitigas talaga ang ulo na mga operators na despite knowing these rules and regulations from the LTFRB ayaw pa rin palitan ‘yung mga sasakyan nila,” he stressed.
Councilor Lao and Councilor Reuben Daba Lao assured the LTFRB that the legislative body will enact the necessary legislation to support the modernization program.
The committee invited the LTFRB, RTA and other concerned departments during its meeting to discuss the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) of Cagayan de Oro. (JBD)
