RTA presents status of LPTRP
THE City Council committee on public utilities chaired by Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. heard the status report presented by the Roads and Traffic Administration on the abstract of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) of Cagayan de Oro City.
The route plan will serve as a basis for the franchise issuance by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
The Power learned that under the new Omnibus Franchising Guidelines, LGUs are empowered to craft their own LPTRP that reflect appropriate solutions to their public transportation requirements.
According to Engr. Nonito Oclarit of RTA, based on the survey conducted by the office, the big problems of the city are the disorderly loading and unloading of passengers, lack of waiting sheds for commuters, inadequate public transport, lack of public transport management, overloaded public transport, among others.
In response to the concern raised by Councilor Reuben R. Daba on the disorderly loading and unloading of vehicles, Engr. Oclarit said the RTA purchased a thermo plastic machine for markings and signages. He assured that signs will be placed in designated loading and unloading areas.
Oclarit said bidding for the installation of reflectorized signages in the city is ongoing. Materials for the project will cost P2 million, he added.
Councilor Lao requested Engr. Oclarit to complete the LPTRP within two months. (JBD)
