Gaane cmte to inspect tattoo shops

IN line with the proposed ordinance providing guidelines in the operation of the tattoo industry, the City Council committee on health and sanitation and health insurance chaired by Councilor Maria Lourdes S. Gaane will hold an ocular inspection this afternoon, February 7, 2018, of two tattoo shops in the city.
The inspection will take place at 2:00 PM at Mick’s Inkz Tattoo T. Chavez St. and at the Green Ink Tattoo locatd along Pabayo-Gaerlan Street.
The committee invited Dr. Rachel Dilla and Dr. Fe Bongcas of the City Health Office, Nimfa Torrizo of the Department of Health (DOH-10), representatives of the City Legal Office, City Administrator’s Office, City Budget Office, City Accounting Office and City Treasurer’s Office and the owner of the two tattoo shops to join the inspection.
Also invited are P/Chief Insp. Mardy Hortillosa II of the Cagayan de Oro Police Office (COCPO), Vivian Sabugaa, chief of the Business Permits Licensing Division, Sergio Bautista, sanitary inspector of the City Health Office and a representative of Mindanao Association of Tattoo Artists (MATA).
It may be recalled that the committee held a series of meetings upon noting the proliferation of the tattoo art business in the city.
The committee aims to protect tattoo clients by ensuring that proper health and sanitary guidelines are being followed.
The Power learned that one of the concerns of the committee is the proper sanitation and disposal of the needles used in tattooing since these are considered toxic and infectious waste.
Councilor Gaane said the priority of the ordinance is to ensure the safety of the people who wants to get tattooed and the legitimacy of tattoo artists. (JBD)
