THROUGH a resolution, the 20th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez has requested the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) to allow the city government to utilize for the City Negosyo Center the abandoned building, formally occupied by the Philippine Postal Bank, at Chavez Street corner Rizal Street.

The Cagayan de Oro Trade and Investment Promotion Center (ORO-TIPC) has identified the abandoned Postal Bank building as suitable site for the Negosyo Center. It is envisioned to offer a variety of services that would benefit local entrepreneurs by providing them with necessary resources including business planning workshops, mentorship programs, and access to financial resources.

While the Deed of Usufruct between PHLPost and the City for the use of the said lot expired sometime in 2021 and pending negotiations for its renewal, Majority Floor Leader Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas said the City cannot just evict the PHLPost out of respect to a government entity. He further tasked the City Legal Office to delineate portion of the lot that will be covered in the renewal of the Deed of Usufruct.

COUNCILOR Edgar S. Cabanlas, chair of the City Council Committee on Subdivision and Landed Estate, led the ocular inspection last Tuesday at the site of city-owned property in Barangay Mambuaya.

This is in relation to the request of the Mambuaya Barangay Council for the city to declare the property as an on-site resettlement area, an extension of the barangay site, and for other public use.

The inspection was joined by the technical team from the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) together with the Land Asset Management Office-Task Force for Emancipation of Piso-Piso Beneficiaries (LAMO-TFEPB), City Engineer’s Office, and City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD), and the barangay council.

During the inspection, Councilor Cabanlas emphasized that the goal is not only to formalize the declaration of the lot and the residents’ status but also to engage in developing a comprehensive plan that would include the barangay’s improvements and school developments.

In addition to the residential road and barangay facilities that the city will declare, Councilor Cabanlas also assured that the site of the public schools of the barangay be formally donated to the Department of Education (DepEd) so that they could begin developing a plan for future improvements.
